Opposition Leader González Travels to Argentina; Venezuela Offers $100,000 for His Arrest

BUENOS AIRES - It was announced today that Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia, currently in exile in Madrid, is traveling to Argentina. This comes as Venezuelan authorities offer a reward of $100,000 for information leading to his arrest. González's trip takes place amid heightened tensions between Venezuela and Argentina. The opposition leader claims to have won the July 28 election against Nicolás Maduro and has promised to return to Caracas on January 10 to "take over the power" from Maduro. However, according to González, he will first meet with Argentine President Javier Milei. He has also called on Venezuelans to gather at the famous May Square in Argentina's capital, Buenos Aires.

"Wanted. Arrest warrant. Reward: $100,000," reads a poster with González's photo, shared on social media by the Venezuelan police. According to judicial sources, the poster is being distributed at airports and checkpoints throughout Venezuela. On December 20 of last year, Spain granted González political asylum. He is accused by Venezuela's Public Ministry of crimes such as "conspiracy" and "criminal association." The Venezuelan electoral council declared Maduro re-elected for a third six-year term (2025-2031), without disclosing any details about the election results. The opposition claims election fraud and asserts that González won.
