WILLEMSTAD – On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, documentary filmmaker Roland Colastica, together with young participants and film actors from the Dutch Caribbean islands, paid a visit to the Governor of Curaçao, Mauritsz de Kort. The visit took place in connection with the presentation of the documentary film AWO NOW NU.
The documentary was produced by Colastica on commission from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science for the Caribbean region. The film focuses on the lasting impact and legacy of slavery as experienced by young people between the ages of 15 and 18. Through personal and often powerful testimonies, the participants reflect on identity, history, awareness and their vision for the future.
The collaboration between young people from the different islands led to meaningful exchanges and strengthened a sense of mutual connection within the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.

By presenting the documentary to the Governor, the project underlined the societal importance of dialogue and awareness. AWO NOW NU gives young people a strong voice in the conversation about the legacy of slavery and its meaning for present and future generations.
