WILLEMSTAD – The group stage of the Fundashon Bicentini Children’s World Cup 2026 wrapped up this past weekend with excitement, passion and plenty of young talent on display at the Stadion Antoine Maduro (SUBT).

The youth tournament, organized by Fundashon Bicentini, has brought together 48 teams representing countries from around the world in a competition inspired by the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Over the weekend, the stadium in Saliña transformed into a vibrant football festival as families, supporters and spectators filled the sidelines with flags, chants and cheering, creating an atmosphere that mirrored an international tournament.

From the opening whistle, the young players delivered energetic performances, competitive matches and several surprising results, drawing strong reactions from the crowd.

According to tournament founder Remko Bicentini, the event is about far more than winning matches.

He said the tournament is designed to help children grow not only as football players, but also as individuals.

The foundation behind the event focuses on improving the physical and mental wellbeing of children and young people through sports, particularly those from vulnerable backgrounds.

The Children’s World Cup forms part of that mission by using football as a tool for personal development, self-confidence and inclusion.

The event has already gained international attention, with media outlets from countries including Australia and Germany following the tournament and highlighting Curaçao’s youth football scene.

That international exposure is giving the island added visibility as a destination for youth sports development.

One of the most striking aspects of the tournament has been the sportsmanship shown by the participants.

After matches, teams were seen congratulating one another regardless of the result, while parents and supporters applauded all players equally.

Organizers say that message of unity and respect is central to the tournament’s philosophy.

The group stage now complete, the tournament moves into the knockout rounds, which are scheduled to begin on May 17.

The finals are set for June 7.

In total, the tournament will run for more than six weeks, making it one of the largest youth football initiatives currently taking place on the island.

According to Fundashon Bicentini, the Children’s World Cup continues to grow into an important sports and youth development project for Curaçao, creating opportunities for children to showcase their talent, build discipline and develop life skills both on and off the field.
