World Cup Fever Drives Surge in Demand for Curaçao Flags

Local, | By Correspondent June 2, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao’s historic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is fueling a remarkable increase in demand for the island’s national flag, with one printing company reporting a tenfold rise in orders since the Blue Wave secured its place in the tournament.

According to Dutch printing company Drukbedrijf, businesses, restaurants, organizations, and supporters are increasingly preparing for Curaçao’s World Cup debut by purchasing flags and other promotional materials to show their support for the national team.

Businesses Embrace World Cup Spirit

The surge extends well beyond individual football fans. The company reports strong demand for World Cup-related promotional products, including match schedules, window decals, banners, and sidewalk advertising signs.

Many of the items are being customized with company logos, slogans, and messages of support for the Blue Wave, reflecting how businesses are embracing the excitement surrounding Curaçao’s participation in the world’s biggest sporting event.

“Just as we expected, we are seeing the first signs of World Cup activity surrounding the Netherlands, but Curaçao is really standing out this year,” said Drukbedrijf founder Rutger Diemel.

According to Diemel, the increased demand reflects the pride and enthusiasm generated by Curaçao’s first-ever appearance at a FIFA World Cup.

“Flags are one of the clearest ways for supporters to show their passion and identify with their team,” he said.

Demand Expected to Grow Further

Despite the sharp increase in orders, Drukbedrijf believes the largest wave of demand is still ahead.

Based on previous World Cups, the company expects the busiest period to occur in the final weeks before kickoff and during the tournament itself, particularly if teams advance beyond the group stage.

For Curaçao, the trend is especially noteworthy because the island has traditionally represented only a small share of the company’s flag sales.

National Pride on Display

The growing demand for Curaçao flags comes as World Cup excitement continues to spread across the island and among Curaçaoan communities abroad.

Businesses, government institutions, and community organizations have been organizing activities, decorating public spaces, and launching promotional campaigns to celebrate the country's qualification for the tournament.

With Curaçao set to face Germany, Ecuador, and Ivory Coast in the group stage, supporters are increasingly looking for ways to display their national pride and rally behind the Blue Wave as the team prepares for its historic World Cup journey.

As anticipation builds, the Curaçao flag is rapidly becoming one of the most visible symbols of a nation united behind its football team and eager to celebrate a moment that many consider the greatest sporting achievement in the island’s history.
