WILLEMSTAD – As part of the International Day of Older Persons activities, the WoMen’s Steering Committee Curaçao successfully organized an informative workshop on Saturday, July 25, 2026, focusing on the theme “Aging of Our Population and Its Consequences.”
The workshop featured a presentation by guest speaker Dr. De Lanooi, who provided participants with valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities associated with an aging society.

The event was marked by active participation from attendees, who showed great interest in the topic. Participants left the workshop with increased knowledge and practical tools to support a healthy, active and meaningful lifestyle as they grow older.
The morning session was opened by WoMen’s Steering Committee Curaçao President Mirieta Lourens-de Lanoy, who highlighted the important role older citizens have played in the development of Curaçao.
“Today we honor and recognize all those who, for many years, have contributed with dedication and commitment to their families, our country and our community,” Lourens-de Lanoy said.
She emphasized that aging is about much more than reaching an advanced age.
“How we take care of our body, our mind and our emotional well-being has an impact on the aging process. The choices we make today about our lifestyle will influence how we age,” she stated.
Lourens-de Lanoy concluded her opening remarks with a message of encouragement, emphasizing the importance of taking responsibility for one’s health and well-being.
“Our future depends on how we take care of ourselves today so that we can enjoy tomorrow. A more conscious approach to our health allows us to remain active and happy. If we take care of ourselves today, we can enjoy tomorrow,” she said.
Following the opening remarks, Dr. De Lanooi delivered an informative presentation addressing the realities of an aging population and the importance of preparation, awareness and education.
The interaction between the speaker and participants highlighted the strong need within the community for more information and education about aging and healthy living.
The WoMen’s Steering Committee Curaçao thanked Dr. De Lanooi for his contribution and expressed appreciation to all participants for their presence and engagement.
The organization said it remains committed to organizing more educational sessions on a variety of topics relevant to the community.
“A well-informed society is an empowered society,” the organization stated.
