WILLEMSTAD – The historic center of Willemstad will transform into a large celebration zone from Thursday through Saturday during the free “Blue Wave Innercity Willemstad Festival,” a three-day event centered around Curaçao’s World Cup experience.
Activities will take place across the districts of Otrobanda, Punda, Pietermaai and Scharloo, featuring concerts, cultural performances, sports activities, fashion shows and live entertainment inspired by Curaçao’s historic qualification for the FIFA World Cup.
According to organizers, the festival is intended not only to create entertainment and atmosphere, but also to strengthen community connection, support talent development and boost activity within Willemstad’s city center.
One of the main highlights is scheduled for Friday evening at Brionplein, where a major music program will feature performances by Tania Kross, Sontje Mercelina, Adjatay and the Randal Corsen Orchestra.
Saturday’s program will focus largely on fashion, culture and youth-oriented activities. Artists Jeon and San Pablo are also scheduled to perform a free concert built around the song “Blue Wave,” which organizers say has become a symbol of Curaçao’s national World Cup excitement.
Meanwhile, Aqualectra has spent recent months installing special lighting throughout the city center as part of the festivities. The new lighting installations in Punda and Otrobanda will officially be illuminated on May 28.
According to festival coordinator Hans van Aalst, the event is intended to reinforce Willemstad’s role as the collective “living room of Curaçao” during the island’s World Cup celebrations.
