WILLEMSTAD – The Waterfortstraat in Punda will be temporarily closed to motorized traffic for approximately six weeks due to renovation works at the Stadhuis (City Hall). The closure is required for demolition activities during the first phase of the building’s renovation project.
During this phase, the construction site will be prepared for the arrival and operation of heavy construction equipment. Starting Monday, July 20, demolition materials will be removed from Punda and transported to an approved disposal location.
The Boogjes area will remain accessible for pedestrians throughout the works. Emergency services will also continue to have access to the area at all times.
According to the project team, special care is being taken during the demolition process to protect the existing architectural structures. Characteristic elements of the historic building will be preserved wherever possible. Materials released during the demolition will be separated and stored for potential reuse.
The temporary closure may cause inconvenience for residents, business owners and visitors to the area. The Waterfortstraat is expected to remain closed until the end of August.
