WILLEMSTAD – Among the groups studied by Human Rights Defense Curaçao, VSBO students showed the most critical views regarding the economic impact of undocumented migrants.
The VSBO focus group included six students and showed a more practical and cautious perspective on migration. While students recognized that undocumented migrants contribute to society, they expressed concerns about labor competition and regulation.
The questionnaire results showed that VSBO students gave the lowest score regarding the contribution of undocumented migrants to Curaçao, with an average of 5.5.
Half of the students said they believe undocumented migrants take jobs away from local residents.
The findings are notable because this group also reported the highest level of direct contact with undocumented migrants, with 83 percent indicating regular contact.
HRDC concluded that personal contact does not automatically lead to more positive attitudes, especially when economic competition is experienced directly.
