According to the Child First Foundation, more than 30 volunteers took part in the one-day community action, repainting and refreshing the academy building to improve the environment for the children and families who use the facility.

The project formed part of the annual “Volunteer Week” initiative in the United States, a tradition focused on community service and strengthening ties with local organizations and communities.

Among those participating was U.S. Consul General Ramón 'Chico' Negrón, who joined other representatives and military volunteers in the hands-on renovation effort.

The Child First Foundation said the improvements will help create a more welcoming and supportive learning environment for students who attend the after-school program.

The foundation plays an important role in providing educational support, guidance and safe after-school activities for children in the community, particularly those who benefit from additional academic and social support.

Foundation representatives described the volunteer effort as an important example of international cooperation and community engagement.

They said the upgraded space will contribute positively to the learning experience of children while also benefiting their families by providing a more comfortable and inspiring educational setting.

The initiative also reflects the broader relationship between U.S. institutions on Curaçao and local community organizations, where volunteer and social outreach programs have become a regular part of cooperation beyond diplomatic and military ties.

For the children attending the Buena Vista academy, the renovated facility offers not only a refreshed building, but also renewed support from partners committed to their development and future opportunities.
