U.S. Congressman Accuses Diosdado Cabello of Hindering Earthquake Relief Efforts in Venezuela

Venezuela, United States, | By Correspondent June 29, 2026

MIAMI, CARACAS – U.S. Congressman Carlos A. Giménez has accused Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello of obstructing rescue operations and the distribution of humanitarian aid in areas devastated by the recent earthquakes in Venezuela.

In a series of posts published on his official X account, Giménez alleged that while Venezuelan and international search-and-rescue teams are working to save lives, Cabello is impeding the delivery of critical assistance to survivors.

The Florida Republican also argued that international humanitarian aid should be delivered directly to the Venezuelan people to ensure it is not diverted or used for political purposes. According to Giménez, relief efforts must remain focused solely on helping those affected by the disaster.

The allegations come as rescue operations continue across Venezuela following the powerful earthquakes that have left nearly 1,500 people dead, thousands injured and tens of thousands displaced. International rescue teams and humanitarian organizations have been deployed to assist local authorities in searching for survivors and providing emergency relief.

As of publication, Cabello had not publicly responded to Giménez's accusations.

The claims have not been independently verified by Curaçao Chronicle. While there have been reports of logistical challenges and criticism of relief coordination in some affected areas, no official evidence has been released publicly confirming the specific allegations made by the congressman.
