WILLEMSTAD – Two representatives of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have been sworn in as Auxiliary Police Officers in Curaçao, strengthening cooperation within the island’s justice system.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Tuesday and formally grants the two DEA representatives the responsibilities and obligations associated with the position of Buitengewoon Agent van Politie (BAVPOL), or Auxiliary Police Officer.

The DEA operates in Curaçao as part of cooperation between local and U.S. authorities and maintains a presence on the island within the framework of its broader regional activities in the Caribbean.
According to authorities, the appointments represent another step in strengthening cooperation and operational capacity within Curaçao’s justice system.
Following their swearing-in, the two representatives may exercise the specific powers granted to them under Curaçao law and the terms of their appointments.
