WILLEMSTAD – Two men were arrested Friday evening after police seized an illegal firearm and narcotics during a judicial search of a residence on Kaya Malwa.
According to the Curaçao Police Force (KPC), the operation was carried out around 9:10 p.m. on July 10 by the Robbery Team in collaboration with the Arrest Team as part of an ongoing initiative to combat the illegal possession of firearms on the island.
The suspects were identified by their initials as C.J.M.J., 30, and J.J.J.D., 29. Both men were born in Curaçao.
Police said the arrests were made on suspicion of violating the Firearms Ordinance and the Opium Act.
During the court-authorized search of the residence, officers confiscated an illegal firearm and a quantity of drugs. Authorities did not disclose the type of firearm or the amount and type of narcotics seized.
The suspects were brought before an assistant public prosecutor, who ordered their continued detention pending further investigation.
The arrests form part of ongoing law enforcement efforts to reduce the number of illegal firearms in circulation and combat drug-related crime on the island.
