Tropical Wave Approaching ABC Islands Could Bring Weaker Winds and Hotter Conditions

Local, Caribbean, | By Correspondent October 7, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Meteorological Department (MDC) is monitoring a tropical wave approaching the ABC islands from the east, with significantly weaker winds expected as the system moves across the region.

According to the weather service, the decrease in wind speed could make conditions feel considerably warmer in Curaçao, with temperatures reaching as high as 34 degrees Celsius.

A tropical wave is an elongated area of low atmospheric pressure that generally moves from east to west across the Caribbean. Its passage can temporarily affect prevailing winds and local weather conditions.

For Curaçao, one of the most noticeable effects is expected to be the reduction in wind. With less of the usual cooling breeze, temperatures are likely to feel hotter even without a major increase in the actual air temperature.

MDC continues to monitor the tropical wave as it approaches the ABC islands.
