WILLEMSTAD – Two tropical disturbances are being monitored over the Atlantic Ocean, with one potentially reaching the Caribbean region this weekend, according to the Caribbean Weather Center.
One of the disturbances could develop into an active tropical wave and may eventually influence weather conditions around the ABC islands. However, there is still considerable uncertainty about its development, timing and potential effects on the region.
Both systems are currently located in the Atlantic’s Main Development Region, an area where tropical systems frequently develop during the hurricane season. Meteorologists are monitoring the disturbances for signs of further organization.
It remains too early to determine exactly when the system could reach the Caribbean or how strong it could become. Its development and movement are expected to become clearer over the coming days.
Stable Conditions for Now
In the meantime, weather conditions around the ABC islands are expected to remain relatively stable through the end of the week.
From Monday, August 10, through Friday, August 14, partly cloudy skies are forecast, with a possibility of isolated showers mainly during the morning hours. Conditions are expected to remain mostly dry during the rest of the day.
Saharan dust could also periodically create hazy conditions across the region.
Temperatures are expected to remain relatively unchanged, reaching around 33 degrees Celsius (91°F) during the daytime and dropping to approximately 27 degrees Celsius (81°F) overnight and during the early morning.
Stronger Winds and Rougher Seas
Wind conditions are expected to become more noticeable during the week, increasing to moderate to strong levels.
Marine conditions are also forecast to become rougher, with waves ranging between approximately 1.3 and 2 meters.
Swimmers, boaters and others planning activities at sea are advised to take the stronger winds and higher waves into consideration.
Attention will increasingly turn toward the tropical Atlantic as the weekend approaches, with the development of the disturbances determining whether weather conditions around Curaçao and the neighboring islands could become more unsettled.
