WILLEMSTAD – After a two-year hiatus, Foundation Tri-Curaçao (Tri Curacao) hosted Trick or Tri at Kokomo Beach on Saturday, October 17, and the island showed up in full force.

The event marks a significant milestone for the local multisport community: Tri Curacao's first adult race in two years and a clear signal that the organization is recommitting to building a home for triathlon on the island.

An Amazing Morning at Kokomo
By 7:00am, the beach was electric. Participants of all experience levels took on the course: a 350m swim, 13km bike, and 2.5km run for the Super Sprint, and a 750m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run for the Sprint and Sprint Relay.

For many in the field, it was their first triathlon ever. For others, it was a chance to get real-world race practice under their belt, whether as a goal in itself or in preparation for an international event. By all accounts, everyone had a blast.
"Seeing the community at Kokomo on Saturday, racing, cheering, and just being together again after two years, was exactly what we hoped for. Everyone came out, everyone had a blast, and it reminded us why we do this. We're building this for our athletes right here on the island," said Christian Curtin, Foundation Tri-Curaçao.

The Community Showed Up
What stood out most was the community. Those who weren't racing were out cheering, volunteering as part of the Crew, or supporting teammates, turning race morning into a true island celebration of endurance sports.
That is exactly the point. Tri Curacao believes there is a need for more local races where athletes can gain valuable race experience, whether to improve as athletes or to prepare as part of their training programs before heading off to international events. Trick or Tri proved that the appetite is there.

As a complement to the Kids Aquathlon Series, adult events are part of building a sustained, local racing calendar that strengthens Curaçao's triathlon community from the ground up.
What's Next
Trick or Tri was just the first lap.
The finish line has barely cooled, and the Crew is already looking ahead. The 2027 event schedule is coming soon, so stay tuned.
