WILLEMSTAD – Motorists are being urged to exercise additional caution at the intersection of Schottegatweg Noord and Aztekenweg after a traffic accident severely damaged the control system operating the traffic lights.
The affected intersection is located near Mangusa in Rio Canario on the route toward Biesheuvel.
According to the Public Works Department (OW), a vehicle struck the computer control cabinet responsible for regulating the traffic lights, completely destroying the equipment.
As a result, both traffic lights at the intersection of Schottegatweg Noord and Aztekenweg are currently out of service.
OW is advising drivers approaching the intersection to reduce their speed, remain alert and follow the applicable right-of-way rules while the traffic signals are not functioning.
Motorists should also pay particular attention to traffic signs at the intersection until the system can be restored.
The Public Works Department did not indicate how long repairs are expected to take or when the traffic lights will return to service.
