WILLEMSTAD – A female tourist was injured Wednesday morning after being struck by the propeller of a boat while snorkeling at Playa Piskadó in Westpunt. She suffered cuts to her left arm and hip and was transported by ambulance to the emergency department of Curaçao Medical Center (CMC).

The Curaçao Police Force dispatch center received the report at approximately 9:42 a.m. and sent police officers and members of Politur, Curaçao’s tourist police, to the bay.

According to the preliminary investigation, the woman was snorkeling when a boat used by local fishermen passed through the area. She was subsequently struck by the vessel’s propeller.

Emergency personnel treated the woman at the scene before transporting her to CMC for further medical care. No additional information about the severity of her injuries was immediately available.

Politur is providing follow-up assistance in connection with the incident, while authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The incident occurred at Playa Piskadó, a popular swimming and snorkeling location in Westpunt where tourists and other visitors frequently enter the water to observe sea turtles. The bay is also used by local fishermen and their boats, resulting in swimmers, snorkelers and vessels sharing the same area.
