WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Athletics Championships held last weekend at the SDK Stadium drew large crowds and produced several standout performances, including three new national records.

A total of 210 athletes participated in the championships, which the athletics federation described as a major success and further evidence of the growing development of track and field sports on the island.

Among the youth athletes, Jahdrienne Mercera impressed in the under-17 category by throwing the discus more than 25 meters.

In the under-11 division, Rayanne Ogenia emerged as one of the stars of the event after setting national records in both the long jump and the combined events competition.

Another national record came from Shane Hamen, who established a new mark in ball throwing in the under-7 category.

The championships also featured strong performances among senior athletes. Sprinter Aldrich Jack won the men’s 100 meters in 10.59 seconds as part of his preparation for the upcoming Dutch national championships.

In addition to the sporting achievements, the athletics federation also announced positive financial news. MCB will continue as the main sponsor of athletics on Curaçao for another three years.
