WILLEMSTAD – Police in Curaçao arrested three minors early Monday morning on suspicion of vehicle theft, in a case that is raising renewed concerns about youth involvement in crime on the island.
According to the Korps Politie Curaçao, the suspects are aged 11 and 14 and were detained shortly after allegedly stealing a vehicle.
Authorities said the stolen car was later recovered in the Kanga area and has since been seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police have not yet released further details about how the vehicle was taken or under what circumstances the minors were intercepted.
Because the suspects are underage, authorities are handling the case under juvenile justice procedures.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing issue of young minors becoming involved in criminal activities, a trend that has been repeatedly discussed by policymakers and law enforcement officials.
Police confirmed that the investigation remains active and that additional details may be released at a later stage.
Authorities are also expected to determine whether the minors acted alone or if others may have been involved.
The recovered vehicle will undergo further forensic and investigative examination as part of the case.
