WILLEMSTAD – Three men have been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into vehicle thefts and the theft of automobile parts, following a police pursuit and a subsequent search of a residence in the Kaya Gilberto A. Doran area.
According to the Curaçao Police Force (KPC), detectives from the Vehicle Crime Unit were conducting an investigation on Thursday when they observed a suspicious vehicle without license plates in the vicinity of Dr. Hugenholtzweg.
Investigators became increasingly suspicious after the occupants stopped near an apartment complex and approached two vehicles parked on a property. Police said the behavior matched patterns seen in previous cases involving the theft of parts from vehicles of the same make and model.
When the suspects realized they were being observed, they attempted to flee the scene, prompting a police chase.
The pursuit ended near Amandelweg, where officers successfully stopped the vehicle. During a search of the car, police reportedly discovered various items commonly associated with criminal activity, including tools, balaclavas, and gloves.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., police arrested 26-year-old J.S.B. and 23-year-old G.R.M., both born in Curaçao. The vehicle used by the suspects was seized as part of the investigation.
The two men were subsequently brought before an assistant prosecutor, who ordered their continued detention pending further investigation.
The case expanded later that same morning when investigators executed a search warrant at a residence located on Kaya Gilberto A. Doran.
According to police, officers recovered several items believed to have been stolen during vehicle-related thefts. During the search, authorities also located 33-year-old K.B., who was already being sought in connection with an auto theft investigation.
The suspect was arrested at approximately 10:00 a.m. and, like the other two men, was presented before an assistant prosecutor and remains in custody while the investigation continues.
Police are now examining whether the three suspects are part of a larger criminal network involved in the theft of vehicles and vehicle parts across Curaçao.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not ruled out additional arrests as detectives continue to gather evidence and identify possible links to other unsolved vehicle theft cases on the island.
