Third edition of Survival Chess Tournament set to begin in Curaçao

Local, | By Press release March 24, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The third edition of the Survival Chess Tournament, organized by chess club Capablanca, is set to begin on April 11, promising another round of intense competition for players across Curaçao.

The tournament has gained popularity in recent years, with the first two editions attracting strong participants and delivering closely contested matches. In the previous edition, Vaibhav Bedi claimed the title after dethroning former champion Kyle Vervuurt, and he is expected to return this year to defend his crown.

The Survival format offers a unique twist compared to traditional tournaments. Players are eliminated after accumulating two losses, with the competition continuing until only one winner remains. In addition to prizes, the champion will take home the tournament’s traveling trophy for one year.

Since the second edition, the tournament has also included a cash prize, made possible through sponsorship by Right Side Car Rental.

Organizers are inviting all chess players on the island to participate in the competition. Registration is open through chess club Capablanca, with an entry fee of 20 guilders.
