WILLEMSTAD – The roof of a terrace above a restaurant in Nieuwestraat collapsed on Tuesday evening, leaving two people with minor injuries, according to police.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m., at a time when the restaurant was no longer busy. Officers responding to the scene found two young individuals who had sustained injuries during the collapse. Both were transported by ambulance to the Curaçao Medical Center for further treatment.

The owner of restaurant Mi Familia stated that the structure involved was a balcony belonging to the building above and not part of the rented restaurant space itself.
Police immediately cordoned off the area and requested assistance from the Safety Inspection team to assess the structural situation. However, the team was unable to respond immediately, as its own office space is currently inaccessible due to the presence of asbestos, limiting access to service vehicles.
The Safety Inspection team is expected to conduct a full investigation during daylight hours to determine the cause of the collapse and evaluate the safety of the surrounding structure.
