WILLEMSTAD – The social housing project in Tera Korá has entered its final phase, with the remaining future residents expected to complete preparatory classes in October before receiving the keys to their homes before the end of the year.
Minister of Social Development, Labor and Welfare Charetti America-Francisca met Thursday with representatives of the Fundashon Kas Popular (FKP) and utility company Aqualectra to discuss the final steps toward handing over the homes.
According to the minister, the project has now reached the stage where preparations are being made for residents to move into the new houses.
The remaining future residents are expected to continue attending classes in October as part of the process leading up to the handover. The objective is for the families to receive their house keys before the end of 2026.
The meeting with FKP and Aqualectra focused on coordinating the work necessary to complete the process.
America-Francisca emphasized that providing social housing involves more than constructing buildings.
“A house is much more than four walls and a roof,” the minister said. “A home is a place where a family should be able to feel safe and at peace and build a stable future.”
She said the upcoming handover will allow the participating families to begin a new chapter in their lives.
The Tera Korá development forms part of ongoing efforts to expand access to affordable housing in Curaçao.
According to America-Francisca, strengthening families also requires providing them with a stable foundation from which they can move forward.
