WILLEMSTAD – Temporary traffic measures will be in effect in Punda on April 30 and May 4 in connection with Curaçao’s annual Remembrance Day ceremony, when the Kingdom commemorates all military personnel and civilians who have lost their lives since the beginning of the Second World War.
Each year on May 4, the Kingdom of the Netherlands observes Remembrance Day, honoring those who died in war, peacekeeping missions and acts of terrorism. Curaçao also marks the occasion by reflecting on their sacrifice and their significance to the community.

As part of the official ceremony, the Curaçao Police Force will implement temporary traffic restrictions in Punda between 6:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on both dates.
On April 30, several roads will be closed to facilitate rehearsals involving the Royal Netherlands Navy and other uniformed groups participating in the preparations for the May 4 ceremony.
On both days, the route from the Citco building on De Ruyterkade to the bus stop in Punda will be closed to traffic.
Motorists heading toward Punda will be redirected through Nieuwestraat in Pietermaai, while drivers leaving Punda are advised to follow police instructions and designated detour routes.
Public transportation will also be affected.
The bus stop at Waaigatplein will not be operational on either day.
Public transport, including minibuses and buses operated by ABC Busbedrijf, will use Ansinghstraat as their temporary final stop before continuing their route toward Johan van Walbeeckplein.
The government is asking for the public’s understanding and cooperation during the temporary traffic changes and is inviting residents to attend the Remembrance Day ceremony.
The annual event serves as a moment to honor all military personnel and civilians throughout the Kingdom and around the world who lost their lives in service, during peacekeeping missions or as a result of war and terrorism.
