WILLEMSTAD – The teachers’ union DOEN has filed a lawsuit against the government of Curaçao over the failure to pay a scheduled salary step increase to education personnel in August 2024.
The case is being brought as a substantive legal procedure, with the union asking the court to formally determine that the government acted неправfully by not making the payment.
After both parties submitted their legal documents, a hearing has now been scheduled. The case will be heard on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
According to the union, the matter is of significant importance, describing the situation as a serious injustice toward education workers.
DOEN has also called on its members to show support during the court session. Union members who wish to attend are required to register online in advance.
The outcome of the case could have broader implications for labor relations and government obligations toward public sector employees in Curaçao.
