Tax Revenues Surge Above Expectations as Curaçao Collects Cg. 557 Million in First Quarter

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao’s tax revenues performed significantly better than expected during the first quarter of 2026, according to the Financial Management Report (FMR) of the Ministry of Finance. By the end of March, the government had collected Cg. 557 million in taxes, exceeding the forecast by Cg. 37.5 million.

The strongest increases came from profit tax revenues, which exceeded projections by Cg. 23.4 million. Turnover tax collections were also Cg. 10 million higher than expected, while transfer tax, property tax and motor vehicle tax revenues also performed above budget.

According to the report, the increase reflects stronger-than-anticipated economic activity and higher company profits. The Ministry of Finance noted that businesses reported higher profits than originally forecast, directly boosting profit tax collections.

Not all tax categories performed positively. Revenues from waste tax fell Cg. 5.4 million below expectations, while excise duties on beer and tobacco also underperformed.

Despite the stronger tax revenues, the report cautions that Curaçao still has more than Cg. 126 million in outstanding obligations that have not yet been fully processed into the budget result. The government therefore warned that the final financial outcome for 2026 could eventually be less favorable than current figures suggest.

The report also shows that the ordinary budget service currently records a provisional surplus of Cg. 38.4 million, although this is lower than the originally projected surplus of Cg. 74.6 million.

The Financial Management Report covering March 2026 and the first quarter execution report were submitted to Parliament by Finance Minister Javier Silvania.
