Tax Reform and Public Finance Overhaul at Core of Government Agenda

Local, Politics, | By Correspondent April 4, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Strengthening government finances is one of the central pillars of Curaçao’s 2025–2029 policy agenda, with major reforms planned in taxation and public administration.

The government intends to modernize tax legislation and overhaul the tax authority in order to create a more sustainable financial base.

These reforms are seen as essential to ensuring long-term funding for key sectors such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and public safety.

Authorities acknowledge that Curaçao’s financial stability depends not only on increasing revenues but also on improving efficiency within government institutions. The program stresses the need for transparency, accountability, and professional public service as guiding principles.

The government has also indicated that difficult decisions may be necessary, but insists that all policy choices will be grounded in clear and explainable frameworks.
