SVB Paid Nearly XCG 429 Million in AOV and AWW Pensions in 2025

WILLEMSTAD – The Social Insurance Bank of Curaçao (SVB) paid out XCG 428.9 million in AOV and AWW pension benefits in 2025, according to its 2025 annual report.

The largest share went to AOV old-age pensions, which totaled XCG 411.7 million. That is an increase of about XCG 15.9 million compared to 2024, when AOV payments amounted to XCG 395.7 million. SVB says the increase was mainly caused by the growth in the average number of AOV beneficiaries, which rose from 53,197 in 2024 to 55,737 in 2025.

By the end of 2025, SVB counted 56,982 AOV beneficiaries, including blocked pensions and persons receiving supplements. That is 2,540 more than the 54,472 registered at the end of 2024. Of the total, 36,202 lived in Curaçao, while 15,641 lived in the Netherlands. Others were registered in Aruba, the BES islands, Sint Maarten and elsewhere.

Payments from the AWW fund, which covers widows, widowers and orphans, totaled XCG 17.2 million in 2025. The number of AWW beneficiaries declined from 2,648 at the end of 2024 to 2,537 at the end of 2025.

Together, AOV and AWW payments increased from XCG 413.5 million in 2024 to XCG 428.9 million in 2025. The report also shows that total AOV/AWW pension payments represented 96 percent of premium income in 2025.

The figures underline the growing importance of the AOV system for Curaçao’s aging population and the pressure this places on long-term social security financing.
