Local, | By Correspondent April 22, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The SustainaBUL Awards 2026 are taking place today in Curaçao, bringing together students, businesses, and policymakers under the theme “Our Power. Our Planet. Nos Isla,” inspired by the global message of Earth Day.

The event is organized by the University of Curaçao and is being held this afternoon at the Centrale Bank van Curaçao en Sint Maarten. It focuses on promoting sustainable solutions and raising awareness about environmental challenges facing the island.

During the program, students will present projects addressing real-world sustainability issues posed by companies such as MCB and Aqualectra. The initiative aims to connect academic research with practical business challenges, encouraging innovation and collaboration.

A keynote address will be delivered by former Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath, who now serves at the World Bank, adding an international perspective to the discussions on sustainability and economic resilience.

The event also includes recognition of local “Green Heroes,” individuals and organizations contributing to environmental protection and sustainable development in Curaçao.

The afternoon will conclude with an informal networking session focused on sustainability, providing participants with an opportunity to exchange ideas and build partnerships.

The event coincides with Earth Day, observed annually on April 22, which aims to raise global awareness about environmental protection, climate change, and biodiversity loss, while encouraging collective action to safeguard the planet.
