MARIGOT – A U.S. government contractor suspected of stealing more than $46 million in cryptocurrency from the U.S. Marshals Service has been arrested on the island of Saint Martin.

The suspect, identified as John Daghita, was detained last week during an international operation carried out by the French gendarmerie in cooperation with the FBI.

Authorities released photos showing Daghita being led away in handcuffs. Investigators also shared images of items seized during the operation, including a suitcase filled with cash, computer flash drives and a passport.

Officials have not yet disclosed how the suspect allegedly gained access to the digital assets belonging to the U.S. government.

The FBI stated that the case highlights ongoing cooperation between international law enforcement agencies in combating financial crimes involving digital currencies.

According to the agency, investigators will continue working with international partners to locate and bring suspects involved in fraud and cybercrime to justice, regardless of where they are located.
