WILLEMSTAD – Governor of Curaçao Mauritsz de Kort on Tuesday officially swore in Susanne Smit-Colenbrander as a member of the Joint Court of Justice of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on September 1 in the presence of Maroeska Scholte, Vice President of the Joint Court of Justice, and fellow Court member Nicole Martinez.
Family members and other invited guests were also present for the ceremony.
With her swearing-in, Smit-Colenbrander formally joins the Joint Court, which is responsible for administering justice at the appellate level across the six Caribbean islands of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Judges of the Court also serve in the Courts of First Instance.
The Joint Court plays a central role in the judicial system of the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, handling civil, criminal and administrative cases within its jurisdiction.
Governor De Kort congratulated Smit-Colenbrander on her appointment and wished her success and wisdom as she assumes her new responsibilities within the judiciary.
