Students Heading Abroad Offered Early Opportunity to Obtain Driver’s License

Local, | By Correspondent May 6, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Students in Curaçao who plan to study abroad in the 2026/2027 academic year will have the opportunity to obtain their driver’s license before departure, under a new initiative announced by the local licensing office.

Registration for the program opens on Monday, April 13, allowing eligible students to secure a place for their driving exams in advance. The measure is intended to help authorities better plan exam schedules and tailor services to meet demand during the busy pre-departure period.

The program is specifically aimed at students leaving the island for studies abroad who have not yet completed their driving test. By registering early, participants can ensure they are accommodated before traveling.

To qualify, applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of registration. The registration period runs until Friday, June 12, 2026.

Students must apply via email at rijbewijzen.puz@gobiernu.cw, submitting a copy of their identification along with proof of enrollment or application with Stichting Studiefinanciering Curaçao (SSC) or another institution supporting their studies abroad.

Those who are not receiving SSC support are required to provide a statement from their current school confirming their plans to study overseas.

Authorities say the initiative is designed to streamline the process for students preparing for international education, ensuring they can complete essential requirements before leaving Curaçao.

For additional information, students can contact the licensing office by phone at 736-2929 or via the same email address used for registration.
