WILLEMSTAD – In the week of February 23, 2026, the Stichting SPLIKA will open its data portal to the public, allowing organizations and individuals to submit documents written in Papiamentu. The materials will be used for the further development and training of LengaGPT, an initiative aimed at structurally strengthening digital applications for the Papiamentu language.
LengaGPT is an AI prototype designed to support users in learning and using Papiamentu. The tool will offer interactive conversations, generate example sentences, correct texts, provide grammatical explanations, and perform simple translations. The system is being developed to adapt its explanations and responses to the user’s language level, making it suitable for a wide range of proficiency levels.
The application is intended for a broad audience, including students, professionals, and organizations that wish to use Papiamentu more actively in education, the workplace, and daily communication. Both beginners and advanced users will be able to use the tool as a practical aid to improve language skills.
SPLIKA is calling on owners of Papiamentu-language materials to become data donors and contribute to the project. Sought-after materials include news articles, literary texts, blogs, research reports, educational content, and other relevant documents.
For each data contribution, a Data Donation Agreement will be concluded. This agreement sets out how the material will be stored, protected, and used within the AI model’s training process.
Those interested in contributing to the project can contact the organization via info@papiamentu.ai.
According to the foundation, the guiding principle behind the initiative is straightforward: strong language technology begins with strong, locally rooted data.
