SOAW Strengthens Financial Education Through Partnership with Nibud

Local, | By Correspondent February 13, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW) is intensifying efforts to strengthen financial education in Curaçao through continued collaboration with the Nibud.

During a recent working visit to the National Institute for Budget Information (Nibud) in Utrecht, the progress of the partnership was evaluated and new strategic steps were discussed. The cooperation focuses on financial awareness, responsible money management and reducing debt within the community.

The partnership, which began in 2023, has already shown positive results, according to SOAW. The ministry aims to further expand financial literacy programs to help prevent poverty and problematic debt situations on the island.

Officials emphasize that improved financial management contributes not only to greater economic stability, but also to reduced stress levels, better overall health and fewer tensions within families.

By strengthening financial education, the ministry hopes to address underlying socio-economic challenges and promote long-term resilience within Curaçao’s households.
