WILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW) is calling on community organizations, churches, foundations and residents to work more closely with the government when assisting vulnerable families, saying better coordination can lead to more effective and lasting solutions.
According to the ministry, combating poverty and social problems is a shared responsibility that cannot be carried by the government alone. SOAW already works with numerous organizations that provide assistance to families across Curaçao, but officials say coordination remains essential.
The ministry warned that when multiple organizations support the same family without communicating with one another, assistance may temporarily relieve financial hardship while leaving the root causes of the problems unresolved.
SOAW is asking organizations, neighbors and members of the public to report situations involving families, children, senior citizens or other vulnerable individuals who may need assistance.
Once notified, ministry professionals evaluate each case while respecting the privacy, dignity and rights of those involved. If another government agency or organization is better equipped to provide support, SOAW says it will coordinate the necessary referrals to ensure individuals and families receive the services they need.
The ministry emphasized that early reporting can prevent situations from escalating and reminded the public that its services are readily accessible.
