WILLEMSTAD – Minister of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW) Charetti America-Francisca has initiated a meeting with the Ombudsman following the presentation of the Ombudsman's annual report, with both parties agreeing to work more closely on structural solutions to social challenges and improving public services.
According to the ministry, the discussions focused on how SOAW and the Ombudsman can collaborate to address long-term issues affecting Curaçao's population and strengthen government service delivery.
Minister America-Francisca said it is important not only to listen to concerns raised by the public but also to translate those concerns into concrete policy improvements. She emphasized that maintaining dialogue with independent institutions that safeguard citizens' interests is essential.
"The Ombudsman is not an opponent of the government but an important partner. Ultimately, we are working toward the same goal: ensuring that people receive proper assistance and have confidence in government services," the minister said.
She noted that the meeting builds on a relationship of mutual respect and open communication established during her tenure as Speaker of the Curaçao Parliament. According to the minister, independent institutions such as the Ombudsman play a vital role in promoting good governance and protecting the rights of citizens.
Both organizations expressed their commitment to continuing their cooperation, placing citizens at the center of efforts to create a government that is accessible, responsive and people-oriented.
