WILLEMSTAD – Former Minister of Finance and current MFK parliamentarian Javier Silvania is calling on Prime Minister and MFK leader Gilmar Pisas to restore peace and unity within the party following the public dispute surrounding the Curaçao Gaming Authority (CGA) and the online gaming sector.
In a press release, Silvania said he has taken note of recent public statements by current Minister of Finance Charles Cooper regarding the CGA, the implementation of the National Ordinance on Games of Chance (LOK), and allegations concerning contracts and operational expenses during Silvania’s time as Minister of Finance.
Silvania argued that when government officials make statements containing what he considers factual inaccuracies, it creates unnecessary uncertainty around one of Curaçao’s most important economic sectors.
According to Silvania, the public debate must be based on verified facts rather than insinuations.
The former minister also called on Cooper to allow the Curaçao Gaming Authority to issue a public statement explaining the situation to the community.
Silvania stated that transparency is important, but that the public also deserves accurate information before conclusions are drawn.
