Senior U.S. Officials Stop in Curaçao En Route to Venezuela to Oversee Assistance Efforts

Local, Venezuela, United States, | By Correspondent July 2, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The U.S. Consulate General in Curaçao welcomed a high-level American delegation this week as the officials made a stop on the island while traveling from Washington, D.C., to Venezuela.

The delegation includes Ambassador Lisa Kenna, Executive Secretary of the U.S. Department of State; Caleb Orr, Assistant Secretary for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs; and Thomas Matteo, a KPMG official.

According to the U.S. Consulate, the delegation is traveling to Caracas, where the officials will meet with Venezuela's leadership, assess conditions on the ground following the country's recent devastating earthquakes, and oversee ongoing U.S. humanitarian assistance efforts.

The visit comes as Venezuela continues to grapple with the aftermath of two powerful earthquakes that have caused widespread destruction, leaving thousands dead or injured and many others missing.

While in Venezuela, the delegation is expected to evaluate the humanitarian situation firsthand and monitor the implementation of U.S. relief assistance being provided to affected communities.

The U.S. Consulate in Curaçao did not provide additional details about the delegation's itinerary or the duration of its visit to Venezuela. Curaçao has served as an important logistical hub for various U.S. diplomatic and humanitarian operations in the Caribbean due to its close proximity to the South American nation.
