Selikor and Fundashon Desaroyo Willibrordus Donate Funds for Restoration of Historic Church

Local, | By Press release March 31, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Fundashon Desaroyo Willibrordus and the Selikor Staff Association have made a significant donation of funds collected during last year’s Willibrordus Day celebrations and Carnival activities, supporting the restoration of the historic St. Willibrordus Church.

The donation, totaling no less than XCG 50,000, was officially presented during a Holy Mass ceremony. The symbolic handover was made to Pastor Raul Mercedes, while the full amount has been deposited into a designated bank account for the restoration and maintenance of the church.

The funds were raised through community contributions during the traditional Willibrordus Day festivities in November, as well as the Selikor Carnival Jump-In event. Organizers credited the success of the fundraising efforts to the generosity and strong support of the community.

Originally completed in 1888, the St. Willibrordus Church has undergone various maintenance works over the years. However, ongoing exposure to salt and corrosion has led to visible deterioration, making restoration efforts increasingly necessary.

The fundraising initiative was specifically organized to address these challenges and preserve the historic building for future generations. Organizers described both the celebration and the fundraising campaign as highly successful.

Expressions of gratitude were extended to everyone who contributed to the Willibrordus Day events and the Selikor Jump-In, as well as to all donors who supported the initiative. The organizations emphasized that the contributions will play a crucial role in safeguarding and maintaining one of Curaçao’s important cultural and historical landmarks.
