Rehabilitation Remains Key Focus in Curaçao’s Prison System

| By Correspondent March 17, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Rehabilitation continues to be a central component of Curaçao’s prison system, even as the government moves to strengthen criminal legislation.

At the Sentro di Detenshon i Korekshon Kòrsou (SDKK), inmates participate in structured programs aimed at preparing them for reintegration into society.

These programs include psychological counseling, education, job training, social skills development, and support in maintaining family connections.

For individuals convicted of terrorism-related offenses, additional measures are applied, including intensive psychological guidance and monitoring of ideological risks.

Authorities emphasize that successful reintegration is essential for reducing recidivism and enhancing public safety.

The focus on rehabilitation is part of a broader strategy that balances stricter laws with long-term social and behavioral change.
