WILLEMSTAD – Regional police cooperation within the Kingdom has received renewed financial backing, with the Netherlands confirming the continuation of its €3.5 million structural contribution starting in 2026.
The funding supports inter-island police collaboration, including the College van Korpschefs, where police chiefs from Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and Caribbean Netherlands coordinate policy and operational strategies.
For Curaçao, regional cooperation plays a vital role in tackling cross-border drug trafficking, firearms smuggling and organized crime networks operating between islands.
The JVO discussions also highlighted growing fire department cooperation within the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. Ministers agreed to work toward a renewed cooperation agreement and to explore the establishment of a joint secretariat to support regional fire services.
