Recommendations Ignored: Curaçao Lags in Implementing Justice Reforms

Local, Politics, | By Correspondent April 7, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao continues to fall behind in implementing recommendations aimed at improving the justice system, according to the latest annual report of the Raad voor de Rechtshandhaving.

The report notes that while oversight reports are generally well received, actual follow-up remains weak. In many cases, justice institutions themselves take initiative, rather than coordinated action led by the government.

A key concern is that a previously established government task force responsible for monitoring implementation is no longer active. This has contributed to a lack of consistent progress.

The oversight body warns that without stronger direction and accountability, longstanding issues within the justice chain will persist.
