RBC–The Eagles Athletics Meet Set to Take Center Stage at Ergilio Hato Stadium

| By Correspondent March 20, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Ergilio Hato Stadium will host the RBC–The Eagles Athletics Meet this weekend, marking a key event on Curaçao’s athletics calendar.

The two-day competition, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, carries added significance as it represents the final opportunity for athletes in the U17 to U20 categories to qualify for the upcoming CARIFTA Games in Grenada, set for early April. Strong performances are expected as athletes aim to secure their spots.

This year’s edition introduces new disciplines such as Turbojav and Vortex Throw, designed to support the development of younger athletes. However, traditional relay events have been excluded due to the current condition of the track.

The event will also include a tribute to veteran sprint champion Siegfried Regales, who has been active in athletics for more than five decades.

At the same time, organizers are using the competition to draw attention to the deteriorating state of the athletics track. Coaches and athletes have raised concerns that the current conditions increase the risk of injuries and hinder athletic development. Calls for urgent renovation of the facility are growing louder.

The public is invited to attend the meet and support the athletes during what promises to be a competitive and meaningful weekend for local athletics.
