Rain Delays Curaçao’s Historic Little League World Series Opener Against Japan

Local, United States, | By Correspondent August 21, 2026

WILLIAMSPORT – Curaçao’s Pariba Little League players will have to wait a little longer for their highly anticipated Little League World Series matchup against Japan after persistent rain in Williamsport forced organizers to postpone Thursday’s game.

The opening game against the team from Tokyo was scheduled to take place Thursday afternoon, but unfavorable weather conditions prevented the teams from taking the field.

The Curaçao youngsters are now scheduled to face Japan at noon today at Volunteer Stadium in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The matchup marks a significant moment for Curaçao baseball. For the first time at the Little League World Series, the island’s players are competing with “Curaçao” displayed on their uniforms. In previous editions, teams from the island competed under the broader Caribbean regional designation.

The players representing Curaçao come from Liga Pariba, which earned its place at the prestigious international youth baseball tournament after advancing through regional competition.

A victory over Japan would keep Curaçao moving forward in the tournament and send the team back onto the field on Sunday.

The rain delay tested the patience of the young players, who had prepared to begin their World Series campaign on Thursday. Their focus now shifts to today’s rescheduled showdown against Japan, one of the traditional powerhouses of international Little League baseball.
