Queen Emma Bridge lights up red to highlight Red Cross work in Curaçao

Local, | By Correspondent April 24, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Queen Emma Bridge will be illuminated in red this evening as part of an initiative by the Red Cross in collaboration with the Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA), aimed at raising awareness about the organization’s work in the community.

The symbolic lighting is intended to highlight the role of the Red Cross not only during emergencies, but also in its day-to-day humanitarian assistance across the island. The organization says the action is meant to remind the public of its ongoing efforts to support vulnerable groups and respond to crises.

The lights are scheduled to be switched on at 6:10 p.m., during a small ceremony at the pontoon bridge on the Otrobanda side. Representatives from the Red Cross and CPA are expected to attend the event.

In addition to the visual display, the Red Cross will also make an important announcement during the ceremony, although details have not yet been disclosed.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to increase visibility and community engagement, as the organization continues to play a key role in both emergency response and social support on Curaçao.
