WILLEMSTAD – The historic district of Punda is turning blue in support of Curaçao’s national football team with the launch of the “Punda Goes Blue” campaign, aimed at building momentum ahead of the World Cup.

The campaign officially kicks off on Thursday, April 23, with the unveiling of a new, bright blue Chichi statue in the city center. The artwork, known as the “Blue Love Chichi,” has been hand-painted and donated by artist Serena Israel and will serve as a central symbol of support for the national team.

Organizers say the initiative is designed to involve both residents and businesses in a broader movement to rally behind the team. The Chichi statue will act as a recognizable focal point in Punda, where the campaign will visibly come together in the lead-up to the tournament.

As part of the changes, the existing Willemstad Chichi statue at Wilhelminaplein will be temporarily removed from public view for restoration after four years of exposure and use. Before returning to its original location, the statue will also be featured during an international golf event at the end of April.

The campaign blends elements of city marketing, culture, and sports, aiming to bring the excitement of Curaçao’s World Cup participation into the daily life and atmosphere of Willemstad.
