WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) is warning the public about fraudulent SMS and email messages containing links that claim to allow recipients to pay speeding fines.
The OM said it has been alerted to several such messages and emphasized that they do not originate from the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Members of the public are strongly advised not to click on links contained in these messages and not to provide any personal or financial information.
According to the OM, official messages from the Public Prosecutor’s Office that contain a payment link are sent exclusively through SENTOO. These messages are normally written in Papiamentu and include the official telephone numbers of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Anyone who receives a suspicious message claiming to concern a traffic fine is advised to delete it without clicking on any links or providing personal or financial details.
People who are uncertain whether a message is authentic can contact the Public Prosecutor’s Office directly through its official telephone numbers, +5999 434 2120 or +5999 434 2122.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office is urging the public to remain vigilant as scammers increasingly use messages that appear to come from official institutions in an attempt to obtain money or sensitive personal information.
