WILLEMSTAD – Residents will have an opportunity on Friday, September 18 to learn more about the extensive renovation and expansion plans for the Court of Justice complex in Punda.
An open-house event will be held at the construction site from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., allowing visitors to view the plans and speak directly with members of the project team and architects Anko van der Woude and Lyongo Juliana.
The monumental courthouse building is undergoing a major renovation that will combine restoration of the historic structure with the construction of four new sustainable wings.
The non-historic section of the complex dating from the 1980s has already been demolished to make way for modern courtrooms and workspaces.
The project will also significantly change the surrounding public space in this part of Punda. Plans include the creation of a shaded pedestrian promenade and a new public passage connecting Wilhelminaplein directly with Waterfortstraat.
The improvements are intended to integrate the renovated courthouse more closely with the surrounding urban environment while creating additional public space and better pedestrian connections.
During the September 18 open house, members of the public will be able to visit the construction site, examine the plans and ask questions about the design and redevelopment.
The meeting is open to everyone and no appointment is required.
