WILLEMSTAD – On Saturday, February 7, 2026, at approximately 10:43 a.m., the Projectteam Toezicht en Handhaving (PTH) carried out an inspection at an illegal construction site located behind Kaya Paniwiri in the Seru Grandi area.
Upon arrival, officers observed an individual exiting a room within the structure wearing a gas mask. When questioned about the identity of the landowner, the individual stated that he would go and look for the owner of the property.

While conducting their inspection, PTH officials detected a strong odor of marijuana. They subsequently discovered a marijuana plant inside the structure. Five additional individuals also exited the room, and the strong smell of marijuana intensified as they came out.
PTH immediately requested assistance from the Curaçao Police Force. Upon arrival, police officers conducted a search of the premises and discovered a significant quantity of marijuana inside the building.
The case has been formally transferred to the police, who will continue the criminal investigation related to the confiscated drugs.
PTH, meanwhile, will proceed with its own investigation concerning the illegal occupation of government land and the unlawful dumping of construction debris on public property.
Authorities have not yet released further details regarding possible arrests or charges.
