PTH and Public Works Address Dangerous Trench Along Jan Noorduynweg

Local, | By Press release July 17, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Project Team Supervision and Enforcement (PTH), together with the Public Works Service (OW), has taken action to secure a dangerous trench located along Jan Noorduynweg.

The intervention followed a report received by PTH about a hazardous situation for pedestrians in the area between Kooyman and Daboussi Motors on Jan Noorduynweg.

Upon arrival, PTH spoke with the project developer, who stated that the project had received a construction permit. According to the developer, the retaining wall of 500 to 600 millimeters would match the existing wall at Kooyman and would be extended to help stabilize the surrounding soil.

However, after measuring the distance of the wall, PTH determined that the situation did not fully comply with safety requirements. The recently covered trench measured approximately 1.4 meters, which did not meet the required dimensions.

PTH instructed the developer to cover the trench properly and move the construction area further back to ensure the required two-meter pedestrian passageway remains available.

The developer was also ordered to install barriers to protect both motorists and pedestrians while construction activities continue.

The developer cooperated with the instructions and confirmed that adjustments would be made to comply with PTH’s requirements.

PTH will continue monitoring the situation to ensure that the necessary safety measures are implemented.
